In 2015, I moved from downtown San Antonio to a modest mid century homesteader cabin on 5 wild acres in Joshua Tree. I took a break from my photojournalism career and from social media to focus on healing. I felt there was a bigger way I could be of service and needed space to slow down and reconnect with myself and mother nature. I redesigned and remodeled Chickasaw Homestead into a healing and creative sanctuary where I could share the magic of the Mojave Desert with others via AirBNB stays and community building creative and healing events. My approach to design has always been deeply connected to place and time- telling a story with collected pieces, color palette and functionality that maximizes the unique essence of a space. So many friends contributed their art to making it special, and many beautiful connections and memories were made there. Its magic and wildness will be with me forever, though I made the difficult decision to let it go last year to start a new project. Photos by Kate Berry, Shelby Cooper, Elena Ray, and Jenn Whitney.
